CLERMONT — Terri Glimcher continues her crusade for the elderly.
Glimcher, activities director for five years at Emeritus at Oak Park, has worked diligently to bring the best quality care to the seniors in her care and the community.
Through the years, she has brought homecoming dances to the facility with the assistance of high- school students who participate in Glimcher's program Bridging the Generations.
She assisted in creating an adult day care at East Ridge High School.
Then there are the fashion shows and cooking classes. The list goes on.
'Guide to life enrichment'
Glimcher and her writing partner, Tammy Mackey, have taken those experience and others to write "g is for golden years, a Life Enrichment Guide For Senior Living."
The final four chapters of the 126-page book are filled with resources for families.
"It's a step-by-step comprehensive plan to creating activities that will enhance the life of all seniors involved," Glimcher said. "It's a guide to life enrichment."
Committed to seniors' quality of life
The book was published in December through LuLu.com, a print on-demand publishing company.
Chapters include "In the Beginning," "How to Adapt an Activity Program," "Utilizing the Community Within," "Outings," "Bridging the Generations," "Resident Councils," "Creating an Activities Calendar" and "Activities for Seniors with Dementia."
"I'm committed to enhancing the quality of life for seniors," Glimcher said. "They've paved the way for what we have today. They deserve to reap the fruits of their labor."
'Honored and respected'
Mackey is an exceptional-student-education teacher at South Lake High School in Groveland.
She has worked as a behavior analyst for more than 20 years and has volunteered at assisted-living facilities for a number of years.
"I've always wanted to write a book," Mackey said.
Glimcher said the people she works with have lived through World War I, World War II and the Depression.
"Sometimes, they're the forgotten people. I want them to be honored and respected, to live their life with dignity and grace."
Book signings in the offing
Six months ago, the writing partners founded the company Activities by Design in which they implement activity programs at senior facilities.
The authors of "g is for golden years, a Life Enrichment Guide For Senior Living" also will assist after a program is in place.
To get their book, go to Lulu.com or senioractivitiesforlifeenrichment.com.
Book signings will be posted in the near future.
